Gidio Rasenti

Gidio Rasenti Self-Employed Farmer Gidio Rasenti passed from this life on November 6, 2012 at the age of 81. He was born on February 12, 1931 to Pietro (Pete) and Giovanna (Gina) Rasenti in Porterville, California. He attended Harmony School and was a regular attendee of their annual reunions held for the two-room schoolhouse. He graduated from Strathmore High School in 1949 and joined the Air Force, where he developed his lifelong fascination with flying and airplanes. He worked in the Air Force as a radar installer on the jet planes. Gidio served his country in the Korean War and was always very proud of his veteran status. After discharge from the Air Force, Gidio returned to the family farm in Tulare County. In 1955, he joined his brother, Vero, in business partnership to create Rasenti Farms, Inc. and Rasenti Brothers. Gidio was a fixture of the Tulare farming scene, enjoying many a chat with his fellow farmers at Stanley's Coffee Shop until failing health forced him to retire in 2011. Even so, he continued to serve in a consulting capacity until his death. Gidio married Helen Alford on August 4, 1957, after meeting her at a square dance. They enjoyed 55 years of life on the farm together. Gidio and Helen had two daughters, Lisa and Nancy, who attended Sundale Union School and Tulare Union High School before moving on to college. Gidio was a long-time member of Young Farmers and the Sons of Italy, Roma Lodge. He held the office of Guard for many years in the Sons of Italy. Gidio is preceded in death by his father, Pete; his mother, Gina; and his nephew, David Rasenti. He is survived by his wife, Helen; his daughter, Lisa McAdams, and her husband, Mike and their children, Ian and Emma; his daughter, Nancy Romero, and her husband, Cris, and their sons, Arlo, Mikko, and Leo; his brother, Vero Rasenti; and many nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church, 1701 E. Prosperity Ave., Tulare, at 10 AM on Thursday, November 15, 2012. A graveside service will follow at North Tulare Cemetery, 4462 N. "J" St., Tulare. Luncheon will be held at the International Agri-Center, 4450 S. Laspina, Tulare.
