Herschel Luallen

Herschel A. Luallen Mr. Herschel A. Luallen of Visalia passed away surrounded by his loving family in Visalia at the age of 103. Mr. Luallen was born May 14, 1909 in Sandoval, Illinois to James and Maude Luallen. Mr. Luallen owned and operated Cal Citrus Packing Co. in Lindsay many years before retiring in 1999. Mr. Luallen was a long time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and held a life time membership at Visalia Elks Lodge #1298. He was an avid Golfer and also enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. He will best remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and beloved friend. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by sons, Jerry Luallen and wife Katherine Dillon of Three Rivers; Dr. Lynn Heiges and wife Maureen of Visalia; daughters, Gayle Wickman of Reno, Nevada; Anele Heiges of New York City; step children, John Toalson of Oahu, Hawaii; Jim Toalson and wife Mary of Belmont; 8 grandchildren, Regina Scrambler (Jack), David Gandy (Karen), Dana Gandy, Chris Luallen, Connie Luallen, Carrie Shropshire (Bradley), Katie Allison (Tom), Michael Heiges, step grandchildren, Jackson Lapin (Bettina) and Jennifer Lapin-Smith, 19 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1st wife of 47 years, Neoline Luallen in 1986, 2nd wife Juanita "Betty" Luallen in 2006, 2 brothers, Quinton and Thornton Luallen and a sister, Dorothea Branch, a son in-law Robert Wickman. And also awaiting him in heaven are granddaughter, Michelle Gandy and great grandson Asher Olivas. A funeral mass will be held Friday, October 26, 2012, 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, followed by a graveside service at Lindsay-Strathmore Public Cemetery. A rosary will be held Thursday, October 25, 2012, 4:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church and visitation will be held Thursday 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Salser and Dillard Funeral Chapel. Funeral services are entrusted to Salser and Dillard Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be sent to a or St. Jude's and/or the Cancer Society.
