Jerry Dean Holmes Born in Shafter, California on March 3, 1940 to Robert and Leora Holmes, Jerry was the second of what would eventually be four Holmes children. Jerry would be preceded in death by his oldest brother Bobby on November 06, 2007, and is now survived by his younger sister Lynette Blodgett, his younger brother Doyle Holmes, his son Dustin Holmes, and his seemingly endless extended family and friends. We lost Jerry on December 15, 2012 and the ripe old age of 72 years young. His passing came as quite a shock to all who had the pleasure of knowing Jerry. If you were to ask anyone that knew him, they would say "he had a stubborn streak a mile wide". His will to live was unrivaled. In the last five years alone, he had overcome cancer, went through numerous chemotherapy treatments, multiple surgeries and kept on charging like he was the Energizer Bunny. His motto for life was, "this too shall pass". He even wore a bracelet with his motto engraved in it to serve as a constant reminder. Jerry was the definition of a people person. This translated into his incredible business savvy, as well as into his personal life. There are very few, if any, people out there that would have a cross word to say about this man. If you had the time, he would regale you with stories ranging from shooting photography for the Miami Dolphins, to the days when he was an advisor and business partner to the one and only Merle Haggard. The way Jerry carried himself is to be commended. There are very few people in this world with a heart as big as his, and that, is what most will remember about him in the years to follow. Jerry's passions in life ranged from Alaskan halibut fishing to riding his Harley Davison, watching his beloved Visalia Rawhide baseball team, Nascar, Football, and generally being the life of the party wherever he went, and not necessarily in that order. We will be holding a memorial service for Jerry on January 12, 2013 at the Visalia Elk's Lodge (3100 W. Main Street) from 12:00 to 4:00p.m. There will be finger foods, tea and coffee, and a no host bar. We are putting together a slide show and encourage anyone who has photos of Jerry they would like to share to please contact Joleen at (559)733-8700 by no later than January 5, 2013. Being that one of Jerry's favorite Harley rides was to the River View in Three Rivers, we invite any and all who would like to join for a ride to honor Jerry's memory to meet at the Visalia Elk's lodge promptly at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 12 before the services begin to make the ride and ensure enough time for all riders to return for the services at 12:00 noon.
