William Line

William Glynn (Bill) Line Bill was born on January 14, 1925 to Walter and Alice Line in Ivanhoe, California, and passed on to Heaven on February 21, 2013 at the age of 88 good years. Bill attended Ivanhoe Elementary School and graduated from Visalia High School in 1942. He served his country honorably during World War II as a member of the 10th Mountain Army Division in Italy for which he was awarded the Bronze Star. After the war he returned to live and work in the Ivanhoe area, eventually acquiring the family orange ranch where he continued to reside and raise his own family in his childhood home. Bill also worked for many years as an agricultural inspector for the State of California. Bill was a faithful husband, wonderful father, and playmate to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was actively involved in his community, including Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and the American Legion. As a young man he organized and managed a softball team in Ivanhoe, and later helped with Little League and Babe Ruth baseball. He traveled extensively by RV with family and friends in the US and Canada, and enjoyed many years of camping in the Sierras and frequent trips to the Central Coast. He "never met a stranger," and was friend to many. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Jean; sons, Bruce of Ivanhoe and Jim of Grass Valley, California (Linda); granddaughters, Marie (Christian) of Visalia, Ellie of Dana Point, California, and Janice of Fresno; great-grandchildren, Braydon and Giuliana of Visalia; brother, Robert Line (Mary) and sister, Virginia Williams (Joel), both of Visalia. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Mary Combs (Tom), Olive Chatten (Loris), Margaret Balch (Bob), Alice, Walt and Lee. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at the Woodlake District Cemetery. Arrangements by Smith Family Chapel, Exeter. Condolences: www.smithfamilychapel.com
