Chester Harris Hefner Jr. School Principal Chester "Bud" Harris Hefner passed away peacefully on Monday, November 4, 2013, after 90 wonderful years. He was born on July 29, 1923, in Oakland, CA, to Madeline and Chester Hefner, Sr. Chester spent his early childhood and adult years in the Bay Area, graduating from Sequoia High School in Redwood City. During WWII, he served in the United States Air Force. He married Ruth Kennedy Hefner on September 7, 1944. They had four children together. After the war, he received his Master's degree from Stanford University, began his teaching career, and served as a principal for 35 years in the Redwood City school district. Chester moved to Visalia with Ruth twenty-five years ago. Even in retirement, he remained active, attending Bible and Breakfast each Wednesday and donating his time to the Visalia Christian Ministries. He is preceded in death by his parents, Madeline and Chester Hefner, and his wife of 64 years, Ruth. He is survived by brother and sister-in-law Robert and Sheila Hefner; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Tom and Ramona Kennedy; son and daughter-in-law Dr. Dennis and Jan Hefner of Cary, North Carolina; son and daughter-in-law Marc and Elisabeth Hefner of Visalia; son Dave Hefner of San Jose; daughter Dr. Linda Bibbs of Sonora; as well as eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. A memorial service with Military Honors will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Salser and Dillard Funeral Chapel, located at 127 E. Caldwell, Visalia. Private burial. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Visalia Christian Ministries building fund, PO Box 7537, Visalia, CA 93290.
