David Roy Gieg Obituary
David Roy Gieg Passed December 16, 2012 David was born January 6, 1948 to Elwood 'Al' and Rosemary Gieg, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; before moving to California's San Fernando Valley. Four years later, he became a brother, when his sister Mary Ellen was born. He was an exceptional athlete as a child, and excelled in high school, breaking every sports record at Alemany High in Granada Hills, in the 1960's. He was the football team's captain and star Quarterback and the baseball team's recording-breaking pitcher. He also played on the school's basketball team, and ran track. He was a popular student, and was chosen as homecoming king, his senior year in high school. He was accepted to Colorado State University on a full scholarship for football, where he played as quarterback on the freshman team. A sports enthusiast his whole life, David was a diehard San Francisco Giants and 49ers fan. An even stronger passion of David's than sports, was family. He became a proud and devoted father in 1981 with the arrival of his first son, David Chad. Two and a half years later, his second son Weston was born. Both boys were born in Santa Cruz, California, where David and his wife Susan were living. In 1992, David and his second wife Cindy, were blessed with a third son, Casey, born in San Jose, California. His sons meant the world to him, and he meant the world to them. David will be remembered for his huge heart, his care and concern for others, and his friendship. Anyone who knew David, also knew he had a rich sense of humor. His deadpan delivery and quick-wit, always brought smiles and laughter to his friends and loved ones. He was extremely hard working, as contractor he renovated central valley homes, often working side-by-side with his beloved sons. No words can describe how saddened his family and friends are with this enormous loss. His strength of character served as a role model to all who knew him. His smile and jokes could brighten any day, and his love and compassion could carry one through the roughest of times. We will dearly miss our father, brother, uncle, and friend. Viewing will be held Friday, January 4, 2013 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm, and a Memorial service will be held Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 3:30pm at Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel, 127 E Caldwell Ave., Visalia with burial at Visalia Cemetery, W. Goshen Ave., Visalia. A reception will be held Saturday, January 5, 2013, 6:00pm at the Valley Oaks Golf Course, 1800 S. Plaza Street, Visalia. The Gieg family would appreciate any donations, in lieu of flowers. A Memorial Fund has been arranged with Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel.
