Earl Richard Smith Earl Richard Smith was born October 7, 1919 in Winfield, LA and died suddenly and peacefully on February 6, 2013 at the age of 93. Earl grew up in St. Louis, MO, where he attended school before serving in the Navy during WWII. After the Navy, he settled in Long Beach, CA where he married his wife Emma in 1945. They were married 65 years before her death in 2010. The family moved to Porterville CA in 1958 where he started the family sign business. The business moved to Tulare in 1975, and he worked everyday with his son Jack, at Smith Sign and Decal until he was over 90. Earl was extremely hard working, very wise and frugal, and was a successful businessman because of these qualities. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge for 50 years. Earl is survived by his children, Jack (Linda) Smith of Tulare and Georgia (Jeff) Davis of Fresno. Also his grand-children Jennifer (Fernie) Marroquin and Brad (Shyla) Smith, great grandchildren, Nathan & Ryan Marroquin and Easton Smith, all of Tulare; and brother, William J. Smith of Massachusetts. The family is thankful to Yolanda Reymundo and Donna Rose who provided wonderful care for Earl the past 2 years so he could live in his own home. Graveside services will be held on Friday, February 15, 2013, at 10:00 AM at the North Tulare Cemetery.
