Evangeline Santos Obituary
Evangeline Marie Santos US Department of Commerce Evangeline Marie Santos, 74, of Tulare, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2013. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, she will be deeply missed and affectionately remembered. "Vangie" as she was known by most, was born in August 1938, in Artesia, CA, to Antonio Linhares Correia and Herondina Raposo Correia. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Artesia and Chaffey College in Ontario where she earned a degree in business. In 1965 she married Tony P. Santos, her devoted husband of 48 years, and moved to Strathmore to begin their life together. They raised three children, owned and operated a farming operation and dairy heifer replacement feedlot until 2006 then moved to Tulare. After her children had grown, Vangie began working part-time as a Field Representative for the US Commerce Department Census Bureau and retired in 2009 with twelve years of service. She was an active member of Sunny Side Elementary School PTA for many years, a long time supporter of the 4-H & FFA programs in Tulare County, a past member of the T.D.E.S Ladies Auxiliary, a member of Tulare County Cabrillo Civic Club #12 and a parishioner at Saint Aloysius Catholic Church. She was also a "Gabby Gal," a group of women, originally all neighbors in the Strathmore area, that began getting together in February 1968 on the second Thursday of each month, at each other's homes. The sole purpose of their "potluck club," was to enjoy one another's friendship, eat good food (which they prepared themselves) and enjoy lots of laughter. Over the years, they became her lifelong friends. Vangie is survived by her husband Tony P. Santos, their children: Maria E. Santos-Silva and her husband Joe of Tulare, Irene M. Santos of Tulare, and Tony P. Santos II and his wife Anna, also of Tulare; one sister Irene Belca of Chino, CA; her grandchildren Sarena, Stacie Ann and Joe Silva Jr., Adrianna, Manuel, Brianna and Alexis Santos, all of Tulare; many nieces, nephews, and Godchildren. She was preceded in death by her infant twin sons John & Manuel Santos, sister Maria Lopes of Arizona, and nephew Pierre Belca of Chino. Family and friends are invited to a public visitation on Sunday, June 30th, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Salser and Dillard Funeral Chapel located at: 127 East Caldwell Avenue in Visalia. A Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Monday, July 1st at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of the Resurrection immediately following (approximately 9:45 a.m.) at Saint Aloysius Catholic Church located at: 125 E. Pleasant Avenue in Tulare. Internment will be at Tulare District Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Vangie's memory to the Prayer Blanket Ministry at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Condolences may be e-mailed to info@salseranddillard.com
