Hasmig "Jessie" Zarounian Born in Fresno on July 28, 1923, to John and Astghig Peloian, Hasmig "Jessie" Zarounian was the second of five Peloian daughters who grew up in downtown Fresno. Jessie passed away on August 16, 2012, with her family by her side. Jessie will be remembered by all who knew her for her zest for life and the grace, poise and class with which she lived it. It was her devotion to family that best defines who Jessie was. Her devotion to her sisters, and their subsequent families, never wavered. Upon marrying George Zarounian, the love of her life, on November 11, 1944, Jessie opened her heart even more and together they began to build their own family. Their three children, Carol, Gail and Gary consider themselves blessed to have grown up and been guided by their loving mother who dedicated herself to providing a warm and nurturing environment for her and George's children. With the marriage of Carol to Vernon Hovannisian and Gail to Bruce Groefsema, Jessie's family soon included six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The six grandchildren grew up knowing the love and warmth with which Grandma Jessie embraced them as she captured a part of each of their hearts. The lessons of life that she taught all of us with her wisdom, perspective and pride will continue to serve us all through the rest of our lives. Jessie has been a 50 year member of the St. Mary's Ladies Society where she held various offices including chairman. She is a lifetime member of Ani Guild Woman's Auxiliary for the California Home for the Aged. Jessie leaves behind her loving husband of 67 years, George Zarounian, her daughter Carol and her husband Vernon, her daughter Gail and her husband Bruce and her son Gary. Also, surviving Jessie are her grandchildren: Damon Hovannisian and his wife Connie, Gia Kazarian and her husband Andrew, Vincent Hovannisian, Ashley Bolduc and her husband Dave, Blair Pasut and her husband Derek and Bret Groefsema; great grandchildren: Alexa and Grant Hovannisian, Luke Kazarian and Madison Gail Bolduc. Jessie's spirit will live in our hearts forever. The family would like to especially thank Dr. Jaime de la Cerna for his compassion, care and love for our mother through the years. He has treated her and our family with dignity and respect.
