Helen Alvarez Helen Alvarez "Aunt Helen" of Tulare peacefully departed this world on January 21, 2013 at the amazing age of 103. Helen was born to Adelaida and Emeterio Alvarez in Mexico on November 30, 1909. Helen was the oldest of 14 children and devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members fixing hearts and bodies. She also loved working as a farm laborer whether it be in the fields picking fruits and vegetables or in the packing houses, she loved doing it all. If any family member had a new baby she would take the time to go and not only be with them but stay with them helping them all she could. She took care of her mother until she passed at the age of 102 and counted it as a joy. Helen loved to cook and shared her cooking with many, many visitors that came by. She always had a garden going and always had to have her cactus no matter what. Helen lost a husband and two young children when she was a young woman. She returned to her parent's home and never remarried. Just take a look for a moment and see the lasting impression on everyone that she encountered. Helen's final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that she had touched in some small way throughout her very memorable life. She had a very strong will to live but JESUS called her to her eternal home. She will be missed by us all. Visitation will be 12-8 pm, Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Peers Lorentzen Funeral Chapel. Rosary and Mass will be at 10 am, Friday, January 25, 2013 at St. Rita's Catholic Church with burial at Tulare District Cemetery. Condolences may be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org
