Hubert M. Kassowitz Hubert Kassowitz was born on April 17, 1924 in Vienna, Austria and passed away on February 8, 2013 in Visalia, California, at the age of 88. Growing up in war-torn Europe put Hubert on a path of seeking peace all of his life. Hubert immigrated to the United States in 1955 with his then wife, Elizabeth and son Martin. They settled first in Seattle where they had two more children, Ruth and Tom. Hubert's path of enlightenment lead him on a journey to California and eventually spending several years in the Synanon community where he found his second wife, Ipo. Hubert became Papa to Ipo's four daughters, Mary, Annie, Dorothy and Susie. Hubert was a machinist and master craftsmen. He was a prolific writer, focusing on peace and spirituality. Hubert's journey brought him to Visalia, California twelve years ago where he retired at the senior community at The Meadows where he kept up his writing and his pursuit of peace. Hubert is preceded in death by his parents Ernst and Dina Kassowitz, his grandson Jeremy Kassowitz and his former wife Elizabeth Kassowitz. He is survived by his brothers John (Hildegard) Kassowitz of Westminster, CO., Helmut (Ilse) Kassowitz of Gmunden, Austria, his children Marty (Bobbi) Kassowitz of Northridge, Ruth (Peter) Golombek of Visalia Tom Kassowitz of Santa Monica, his former wife Ipo Kassowitz, and daughters Mary (Tony) Calcagno of Exeter, Ann (Don) Standley of Hawaii, Dorothy (Monte Bolmer) Holmes of Alameda and Susan (George) Bentacur of Visalia. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Jodi Kassowitz, Dustin Kassowitz, Rebekah Barman, Joshua Golombek, Amy Kassowitz, Mathew Kassowitz, Jessica Holmes, Victor Holmes, Brian Standley, David Arruda and great grandchildren Aiden LaFraniere, Aspen Kassowitz and Julian Kassowitz. A Celebration of Life will be held on March 2, 2013 at the Visalia Holiday Inn at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Doctors Without Borders or plant a fruit tree in your garden.
