Illa Mae (Callison) Strand Illa was born December 10, 1935 to Susan and James Callison. Her father was the first barber of Exeter, CA. She passed March 25, 2013. On May 29, 1956, Illa married William Strand and within a few years they started their family. Illa and William were blessed with three children: Charles, Carl and Hope. They settled down on the Nyswonger Ranch and decided that would be home. Illa was a housewife and mother for many years. She did babysit a number of children who loved her so much. At the age of 60 Illa decided to go back to school and become a certified nurse's aid. She worked at Merrit Manor for 11 years and loved every resident she cared for. Illa never met a stranger. She was an avid bingo player and loved her trips with her sisters to the casinos. In her spare time she loved to walk the fields between her home and the golf course. Illa became known as the "pink hat lady" by all the golfers. She would pick up all the stray golf balls in the field and keep them; although sometimes she would sell them back to golfers. Illa is preceded in death by her mother Susan (Martin) Callison, father James Callison, sisters Bonnie Cook and June Warren, and brothers Leo and Frankie Callison. Illa is survived by her husband William Strand, sons Charles Strand and Carl Strand (wife Melody), and daughter Hope (Strand) Ballew (husband Mark), sisters: Margaret Johnson, Betty Fulton, Judy Wynn, and Carol Parker, 6 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Illa leaves behind many friends also. We ask that instead of flowers, please make donations to the
and Optimal Hospice. Memorial Services are set at NEW LIFE CHURCH on the corner of Palm and B St. in Exeter, CA at 11:00 a.m on April 5, 2013.
