Dr. Jessie Reed Obituary
Dr. Jessie O. Reed, Jr. Dr. Jessie (J.O.) Reed, Jr. was born in Hinton, Oklahoma on March 29, 1940 and went home to be with the Lord on July 13, 2013 in Visalia, California, at the age of 73. As a child Dr. Reed spent most of his time in Oklahoma until the family moved to California when he was a teenager. Dr. Reed entered the U.S. Air Force in 1957 and served our country for nine years, most of that time in France. After returning from his military service he settled in Fresno, CA. Dr. Reed entered the ministry in the late 1960's. In 1971 he married Dora Mason and they began their ministry together, serving as youth pastors at Cedar Avenue Foursquare Church in Fresno and then taking the full-time pastorate at Evangel Tabernacle in Dinuba, CA. In 1976 they moved to Ventura, California where they served as Senior Pastors at Church of the Galilean in Saticoy and then they pioneered Bethel Christian Center in Ventura in 1980 and served there until 2004. In 1980 Dr. Reed and Dora founded Zion Ministries, Inc.; a worldwide missions ministry that continues to this day. Dr. Reed has traveled and ministered in over a dozen countries where the Lord used him to train ministers, establish churches and Bible schools. In 2008 Zion purchased property in Visalia where the ministry continues to operate, training students in the Word, holding missions conferences, establishing and covering many ministries in the U.S. and abroad. Dr. Reed continued to travel in the mission field; his last trip being in 2011 to Uganda, East Africa. His passion was missions where he encouraged and trained ministers in the Word and for the work of the Lord. Dr. Reed is survived by his wife, Dora, son Daniel, brothers Frank, Valden, and Daniel, and sisters Eleanor Cheatwood and Spicie Lee. Dr. Reed is also survived by his many children in the Lord whom he loved as his own. He was Dad, Papa, Daddy, and Tata to hundreds. Dr. Reed went home as he always wanted, preaching the Gospel and praising the Lord! Those that where present at his home, would consider it a privilege to be a part of such a blessed event. He's home! Services will be held at Visalia New Life Church, 1905 E. Noble Ave., Visalia, CA at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 20th 2013. A viewing will be held at the same location at 10:00 a.m. that same morning. Reception will be held immediately following the service at 15128 Ave 344, Visalia, CA.
