John E. Hipskind John E. Hipskind, also known as Jack, passed away in Visalia, CA on December 18, 2012 at the age of 79. Jack was born in South Bend, Indian on April 20, 1933, to John T. Hipskind and Virginia C. Massey. At 15 years of age he enrolled at the University of Chicago, where he received a B.A. degree at 19. He then returned to So Bend and attended Notre Dame, where he earned an MBA in 1957, after serving in the Army for two years, during the Korean War. Jack is survived by Ches, his beloved wife of 52 years, son John and daughter-in-law, Francine of Visalia, son Stefan and daughter-in-law, Stephanie of Tulsa, son Alex and daughter-in-law, Melina of Chicago, and nine grandchildren, his brother, Joseph and daughter-in-law, Connie of Grand Rapids, MI., four nephews and three nieces. His sister Nancy preceded him in death in 2000. Jack was a member of Mensa for many years, and Opus Dei. Enjoyed traveling with his RV, his association with Visalia Sportsman Club, the fellowship with the residents of Sierra Village and above all being with the family. Jack was an incredibly patient man who always saw the best in people, and accepted as they were without any criticisms. He was especially helpful to young people, always guided by the values of Family, God and Honesty. Family would like to extend a special thank to the Staff at Kaweah Delta Palliative Care for their kindness and loving care. A funeral mass was celebrated at St. Charles Borromeo on December 21, 2012, followed by a memorial service held at the Salser and Dillard Funeral Chapel. His remains will be buried in South Bend, Indiana. Remembrances may be made to a charitable organization of personal choice.
