LTC Gary Lynn Tucker LTC Gary Lynn Tucker, US Army (Ret) died of leukemia 20 September, 2013 in San Antonio, TX. Born 7 November, 1944 in Long Beach, California he was a long time resident of the valley, graduating from Visalia High School in 1962 and from the College of the Sequoias. A life-long student, Gary received a BA from Oklahoma State University, an MA from Georgia State University, and pursued doctoral studies at the University of Oklahoma. A valiant warrior and patriot LTC Tucker was a distinguished and highly decorated Infantry Officer. While serving with the 1st Infantry Division in Viet Nam he was presented the Distinguished Service Cross by President Richard Nixon. Other awards included the Combat Infantry Badge, three Silver stars, four Bronze Stars including one with Valor device, and four purple hearts. While he served all over the United States and overseas Gary was proud to be a third generation Californian and considered Visalia his home town. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Patricia and son Gary of San Antonio, TX; sister Brenda Lee Gesinger of King City, CA; sister Anna Marie Taylor of Cedar Crest, NM; and brother Timothy from Mountain Home, AK.
