Lula Mae Peden Lula Mae Peden, nee Carrier was born in Coyle, Logan County, Oklahoma on April 11, 1926. She passed away on March 24, 2013 at the age of 86 years in Bakersfield, California. Lula came to California from Oklahoma with her family in 1936 at the age of ten and settled in Tulare County. She graduated from Woodlake Union High School in 1944 as the first married woman to graduate from that school. Her husband served in the Army Air Corp during World War II in the South Pacific. Upon his return, they established residency in Woodlake and began to raise their family. Lula's last employment prior to retirement was at Woodlake Ranch olive plant. She enjoyed traveling the western states in her motor home frequenting the central coast and the Sequoia Mountains. Before moving to Bakersfield in 2010, she was a faithful member of the Woodlake Christian Center for many years. In addition she was a member of the VFW womens auxillary in Woodlake. Lu, as her friends called her, is survived by her husband of 69 years, David; her sons, David (Belva) Peden of Chandler, Oklahoma; Richard "Mike" (Judy) Peden of Visalia; and daughter, Christine (Michael) Cochran of Bakersfield. She is further survived by six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Miller Memorial Chapel in Woodlake on Thursday, March 28 at 1:00 p.m. Tributes and condolences may be made at www.millerchapel.com.
