Martina Guerrero Our mother, Martina Guerrero, passed away Friday, May 3rd, in Tulare at the age of 91. She was born on April 25th, 1922 in Vado, New Mexico. In her late 20's her family moved to Tulare to find work as farm laborers. She worked most of her life in the fields to support her family. Later in life, her enduring work ethic enabled her to work cleaning offices. Martina took great pride in the fact that no one could clean an office or a home as well as she could. Martina was a single mother to her six children, leading them with her feisty and stubborn spirit. Although she had a very busy schedule, she always found the time to watch them grow and loved spending quality time with her grandchildren. In fact, she often looked after other friend's and family's children as well. She believed that every morning should be started with a good bowl of cream of wheat and canella. Martina was a member of Sociedad Edad De Oro for many years. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, dancing, listening to Mariachi music, tending to her garden and spending time with her family. She was well known by those that loved her for the roses she grew in her front yard and having a green thumb with every plant she grew. She was preceded in death by her parents, Maximo and Juanita Guerrero; 3 sisters, Loretta Guerrero, Carmen Lopez and Anita Valtierra; 4 brothers, Guadalupe Guerrero, Trinidad Guerrero, Jose Guerrero and Sylvester Guerrero. She is survived by two brothers, Angel Guerrero and Joaquin Guerrero and her six children; daughter Helen Saenz and Sonny Arriola, son Samuel and Velia Martinez, daughter Hortencia and Mike Alvarez, daughter Esther and Lee Ruiz, daughter Lory and Randy Crow, son Rudy Cortez and Linda Castro, along with 13 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Viewing will be held on Thursday, May 9th from 12-6 p.m., with the Rosary immediately following from 6 to 8 p.m. at Peers Lorentzen Funeral Chapel, 132 W. Kern, Tulare. The celebration of life will be held on Friday, May 10th at 1 p.m. at St. Rita's Catholic Church, 954 S. O St., Tulare with the burial immediately following at North Tulare Cemetery.
