O. Gerald Fields Tulare County Tax Collector O. Gerald Fields, 71, of Visalia passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013. Jerry worked for Tulare County Tax Collectors office for 27 years. He was elected Tax Collector-Treasurer in 1986. He retired in 2006. Earlier employment included Tucoemas Federal Credit Union, and Finance and Thrift branches in Dinuba, Sanger, and Porterville. As a young man, he worked at a cotton gin. He also drove a bus for the Porterville School District while attending Porterville Junior College. Jerry's love for his family and friends included his neighborhood and community. He served in the Sequoia Lions (former member and past president), Sequoia Bobby Sox, Tulare County Employees' Association (past member), and Kiwanis. He was also involved in AYSO youth soccer and the Visalia Vapor Trailers. Jerry had many hobbies. He enjoyed golf, car shows, and working in his yard. Jerry spent many happy hours restoring and polishing his '33 Ford hot rod. Jerry enjoyed NASCAR and was an avid sports fan. He was a talented third baseman. He also enjoyed the many memories he made on trips with dear friends and family. Jerry and his wife, Renee, have traveled to England, Ireland, Alaska, Hawaii, and New York. They have also taken Caribbean Cruises and made several trips across the US. He was an active member in his church, Visalia First Assembly, serving as an usher and volunteer groundskeeper and doing hospital visits. He was also involved in Gideon ministries and Jail and Prison ministries for many years. He was a special man who always thought of others first and was a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. His grandchildren were a delight to him. His absence leaves a hole in our hearts. He will be missed by many, but is with our Lord and Savior. The family wishes to thank everyone for the many prayers, thoughts and messages during his recent and sudden illness. Your thoughtfulness brought great comfort to our family. He is survived by wife, Renee Fields of Visalia; sons, Jeff & wife Kerry Fields of Murrieta, CA, Eric & wife Amy Fields of Duncanville, TX; daughters, Tiffanie Simpson and husband Murray Clayton of Sacramento, Kendra & husband Matt Griffiths of Visalia, Kristen & husband Mike Bragg of Woodinville, WA; sisters, Linnia Smith of Visalia, Helen Roggenstein of Porterville, Nola and husband Pete Turner of Dearborn Heights, MI; grandchildren, Jaclyn, David, Kevin, Scott, Andrew, Eleanor, Liam, Ethan, Oliver, Lucas, Finley and Addyson In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Visalia Christian Preschool, 3737 S. Akers, Visalia, CA 93277 or Terry's House in Fresno, The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Terry's House. Their facility was a blessing to the family during Jerry's stay in the Regional Community Medical Center.
