Jose Sandoval Betancur was born April 14, 1928 in Miami Arizona, and passed away suddenly on Monday March 7, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. Jose was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He left very positive and indelible memories in so many lives he touched in his 82 years. He attended the Berkley School for the Deaf and graduated from high school there in 1946. He married his beloved wife Mary Luz Betancur and they were to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary later this year. In 1954 they settled in Woodlake and have lived there since. Jose worked for Golden State Citrus Packing from 1954 to his retirement in 1990. He loved his work and had an unending passion to do quality work in everything he touched. Through the years he proved he could accomplish anything he set his mind to do. He was known for his sense of humor and friendly personality. Sports were a big part of Jose's life, and his loyalty to the Los Angeles Dodgers and LA Lakers never wavered. But his greatest satisfaction was family get together's where he could enjoy his grand children and great grand-children. Jose and his wife have 3 children: sons George Betancur of Woodlake, Danny Betancur of Fresno and daughter Patty Alvarez of Visalia. He also has 8 grandchildren whom he loved dearly: Alex and Nathan Alvarez, Mia Neunzig, Monique and Marcel Betancur, Joshua and Natalie Betancur. He was blessed with 4 great grandchildren: Manny and Gina Neunzig, Elijah Alvarez and Aiden Alvarez. He is also survived by one sister Jesus Lara. He was preceded in death by his parents Hilario and Concepcion Betancur, brothers Catarino and Hilario Betancur, sisters Juanita Renteria and Petra Zuniga. Visitation will be held at Miller Memorial Chapel of Woodlake on Thursday, March 10, 2011 from 2pm until 6pm. Recitation of the Rosary will be held Thursday March 10, 2011 at 6pm at St Francis Cabrini Church in Woodlake. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held Friday March 11, 2011 at 9am in the same church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Redbanks Foundation Scholarship Fund, Educational Employees Credit Union, 3612 South Mooney Blvd, Visalia, CA 93277 in Jose's memory.
