Edward K Kraus Edward K Kraus, 87, passed away on November 23, 2012 surrounded by his family. Ed was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on September 14, 1925. Around the turn of the century, his parents immigrated to the United States from Austria. He was the youngest of four children. As a child, he developed remarkable skills in hunting, fishing, and trapping. As a young man, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and celebrated his 17th birthday in boot camp at Camp Pendleton. While in Los Angles, he met his future wife and soul mate, Jean Kraus, at a roller skate ring. Prior to being deployed to the South Pacific, they agreed to marry upon his return. From 1941 to 1945, Ed fought in many battles in the South Pacific and Solomon's Islands. He was a member of the elite fighting force nicknamed "Carlson's Raiders" of the 2nd Marine Raiders Battalion. Over the course of five years, he fought in numerous battles and earned a Purple Heart for his bravery. In 1945, he married Jean and they celebrated 65 years together until she passed away in his arms on March 7, 2011. After being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps, he was hired as a lineman for the Southern California Edison Company. While working full-time as a lineman, he took night classes at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and earned a degree in electrical engineering. He spent over 35 years at the Edison Company where he worked his way up to senior management. Ed was also a devoted parishioner of the Saint Mary Armenian Apostolic Church of Yettem. Throughout his life, he continued to travel, hunt, and fish. He was a proud member of the National Rifle Association (NRA). Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Elsie Kraus, his wife, Jean Kraus, and son, Edward Kraus, Jr. He is survived by son, John Kraus, his five grandchildren: Edward Kraus, Jennifer Bennetts, Jerod Kraus, Shane Kraus, and Sean Kraus, and three great grandchildren: Cheyenne Bennetts, Annaliese Bennetts, and Jonothan Bennetts. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Miller Memorial Chapel from 4:30pm until 6:30pm. A Home service will follow at the chapel at 6:30pm. Church services will be held on Friday, November 30, 2012 at Saint Mary Armenian Apostolic Church of Yettem at 10:00am, followed by grave side services at Visalia Cemetery. Under the direction of Miller Memorial Chapel, Visalia, California.
