Charles "Smokey" Crumly Charles "Smokey" Crumly, aged 63, of Woodlake, passed away on April 13th, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was a citrus farmer most of his life and a retired Deputy Sheriff with Tulare County. He was the son of Hal Crumly and Mary Ruth Crumly also of Woodlake. He attended Woodlake High School where he excelled in football & wrestling and graduated in 1968. He attended COS where he played football and eventually the police academy. He married Betsy Griffin of Redlands, CA in 1969. Smokey joined the Woodlake Police Department just after his 21st birthday, where he worked for about a year before he went to work for the Tulare County Sheriffs Office where he worked as a patrolman in the Woodlake/Ivanhoe area and as a detective in the Ag Crimes and Civil Divisions. He retired from law enforcement in 1991 and returned to farming citrus in the Woodlake area. Most recently he occupied his time with establishing a successful saloon business. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, four-wheel drives, and motorcycles. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, his son Christopher Crumly of Dinuba, his daughter Sara Crumly of Woodlake, brother Christopher Crumly of Woodlake, sister Catherine Elizaldi of Woodlake, sister Susan Merrill of Visalia, and grandchildren: Wyatt Crumly, Scarlett Rodriguez, Liberty Taylor of Woodlake, and Vanessa Crumly of Visalia. Graveside services will be held at Eshom Valley Cemetery in Badger on Saturday, April 20th, 2013 at 5 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in his name to Optimal Hospice Foundation at 2439 W. Whitendale, Suite B, Visalia, CA 93277.
