Dorothy Ann Dennewitz Mrs. Dorothy Ann Dennewitz went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 1, 2014 surrounded by her family. She was born on June 2, 1928 to Lawrence and Elma Humphrey Jakes in Chillicothe, Ohio. After graduating from Chillicothe High School in 1946 she attended the University of Mary Washington in Virginia and the University of Cincinnati. She married Kenneth Dennewitz in 1948 and raised 5 children. In 1969 she moved to Visalia where her love of children led her to obtain a degree in child development from Fresno State University and a special education teaching credential. She taught 22 years for Tulare County Department of Education at East Union, Maple Melody and the Infant Stem Program, retiring in 1991. She loved The Lord and was a devoted member of Gateway Church and Bible and Breakfast bible study. She dedicated her life to her family, all children and The Lord and church. She was a voracious reader, fabulous cook and loved flowers and traveling. Dorothy is preceded in death by her son Timothy Dennewitz, her parents, her brothers Dr Harold Jakes, Lt. Col. Larry Jakes and her sister Esther Franklin. She is survived by son Eric and Sandee Dennewitz, daughters Joyce and David Sharp, Marsha Dennewitz, Lisa and Michael Pacheco, her precious grandchildren Megan, Cindie, Josh, Jared, Jennifer, Candice, Courtney, Jessie, Matt, Kishi, and great-grandchildren Haley, Addison, Kassidy, London, Beau and Lila. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Her family would like to thank Park Visalia and Optimal Hospice for their care and compassion. At Dorothy's request there will be no service.
