Hazel Beatrice Curry Hazel Beatrice Curry, 90, of Visalia after a long battle with Lymphoma entered into eternal rest surrounded by her family at her home in Visalia on Saturday, March 8th 2014. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all who were blessed to know her. Hazel was born on February 18th, 1924 in Greensboro, NC. She was one of five children born to John Fletcher Alley and Rosa Lee Alley; when Hazel was five years old her father suddenly passed and she was raised by her mother, Rosa; who remained a single mother and raised all five children during the Great Depression. In 1944 she met Albert Lee Curry whom she married and had two daughters with, Sandra Sue and Sharon Lee and a son Timothy Wayne. In her younger years she worked as a seamstress in a textile sewing factory in Martinsville, VA before becoming a homemaker when her children were born in 1946. After her children were grown she became a successful business owner including; Pioneer Landing Marina and Campground in Butler, TN; which she owned and operated with her husband until his death in 1982. A few years after his passing, the family moved to Los Angeles, California where she owned a restaurant until she retired in 1989 and moved to Visalia with her daughter and son. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Lee Curry , her father; John Fletcher, her mother; Rosa Lee Alley, an infant daughter and three brothers; Lonnie Alley, Bo Alley, and Purvis Alley; and in 2013 her older sister, Mamie Richards of Soddy Daisy, TN. She is survived by her two daughters; Sandra Sue Curry of Milton-Freewater, OR; Sharon Lee Curry of Visalia, CA and her son Timothy Wayne Curry of Visalia, CA. She is also survived by her granddaughter Rebecca Peerson of Fresno, CA along with her husband Michael and Hazel's three great-grandchildren Sophia Lynn, Brayden Patrick and Ethan Michael and a second granddaughter; Shanta Curry of Visalia, CA. Our enormous gratitude to Kaweah Delta Hospice Services, for their compassionate care during this difficult time. We as a family are forever grateful to all of those who have prayed for us and supported us and will hold you in our hearts. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 15th 2014 at 11 a.m. at Salser and Dillard Funeral Chapel with a reception to follow at her daughter's home in Visalia. Private burial will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, Martinsville, Virginia. Arrangements are entrusted to Salser and Dillard Funeral Home of Visalia, California.
