Nova Dell (Thompson Sumruld) Rhoades November 6, 1932 - April 7, 2014 Nova Rhoades, 81, of Tulare, California passed away on April 7, 2014. Born in Spiro, Oklahoma, on Nov. 6, 1932, Nova moved to California when she was 9 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents Solon and Nell Thompson, her sister Deen Thompson, and nephew Rodney Frank. She was survived by 3 children, Kelly (Ronnie) Sing, Bruce Sumruld and Linda Sumruld, 4 Grandchildren, Alanna Sing, Wyatt Sing, Stacey Welch, Jon-Marc Sumruld, her sister Faye (Richard) Simon, 2 nieces and 2 nephews. Nova married R. L. Sumruld on Dec. 31, 1950 in Las Vegas. As a young girl, Nova enjoyed wearing gathered skirts, saddle shoes with anklets and short poodle haircuts. She loved going fishing with her maternal grandfather and he always told her she wouldn't be able to tag along if she couldn't be quiet! She enjoyed playing on tire tree swings with her sisters and cousins and she and her sisters would pretend they owned a country store and sold groceries. Nova enjoyed spending time at lunch with her friends at the Tulare Senior Citizens Center and playing Bingo. Her greatest joy was to be able to stay with her grandkids, Alanna and Wyatt Sing, from when they were just a few months old until their teen years. She would sing, "Daisy, Daisy" and "When the Cradle Rocks" to them, take them on walks and adventures around the neighborhood, and give them the occasional milkshake before 10 a.m. Nova was a member of the Tulare Church of Christ The Sing family would like to thank the gracious staff at Westgate Gardens for the wonderful care and love over the past several weeks. Services will be held on Saturday, April 19th, at 11 a.m. at Peers Lorentzen Funeral Service, 132 W. Kern Ave., Tulare.
