Mary Elizabeth Dutro September 4, 1917 - April 22, 2014 Our very dear and much loved Aunt Mary made her final journey from Kaweah Delta on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 after a brief illness. She was 96 years old. Born Mary Elizabeth Costa to John and Rosa Costa in Hanford, California on September 4, 1917. She moved to Tulare with her family when she was two years old. She attended the old Linder School from kindergarten through eighth grade and graduated from Tulare High. Mary married her husband Elmer William Dutro of Watsonville, California on May 21, 1939 in Los Gatos, California. They built their adobe home on the West side of Tulare in the early 1940's where they resided the rest of their lives. Mary's husband, Elmer, pre-deceased her on June 14, 1988. Her brother, Frank Costa, also pre-deceased her in 1939 in a drowning accident in Tulare Lake. Mary enjoyed traveling and she was an excellent seamstress. She served on the Election Board for over 50 years at the Oak Valley School until its closure in 2007. She also was a member of the Tulare Women's Club for many years and a member of the Altar Society at St. Aloysius Parish. Mary is survived by her great-niece Jackie Smith (Joe) of Hollister, CA, her great-nephew Jim Tipton (Karen) of Watsonville, CA and her goddaughter Carol Lucas (Evan) of Tulare. She also leaves four great-great nieces and nephews and six great-great-great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 28, 2014, 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. at Miller's Tulare Funeral Home, 151 North "H" Street, Tulare, Ca. St. Aloysius Altar Society Rosary will be held on Monday, April 28, 2014, 4:00 p.m. at Miller's Tulare Funeral Home. Recitation of the Rosary and Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 125 East Pleasant Ave., Tulare, Ca., with burial at Tulare District Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Miller's Tulare Funeral Home.
