Mary Villa Obituary
Mary Villa Mary Hurtado Villa left peacefully on July 12, 2014 to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was 86 years young. Mary was born in Cowley, Wyoming on June 7, 1928 to her parents Dario Hurtado and Leonicia Cardona Hurtado. She was number 12 of 13 children. During her lifetime, Mary was a very hard worker. From the age of 13, she was helping to support her family and also throughout her marriage. She first worked in the fields and packing houses and after her marriage to Eugene N. Villa she stayed at home for a short time. Being the hard working and ambitious woman she was, Mary soon returned to work, picking cotton and fruit until they moved to Los Angeles. She then went to work at St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica, where she worked in housekeeping. Missing their hometown of Tulare, she and Eugene eventually moved back. She then went to work at Tulare Loft Seatbelt and Sprague Electric in Visalia, until they closed. She also worked at Isotrol in Visalia, though her passion was Scope Assembly at Sprague Electric. Mary made many close friends whom we don't see anymore but are still in touch with, for they are our extended family. Mary was a member of St. Rita's Catholic Church and a proud member of the Christian Joy Prayer Group. She loved singing to her Lord and playing her tambourine. She also did volunteer work at the Salvation Army with Majors Ruth and Scott and was a bell ringer at Christmas time, even after her first stroke. She also volunteered with Mrs. Marion Butts for Feed the Poor Group and was sorry that that had to end when she could no longer drive. Mary felt she was unable to "Pass His Word Along" while giving bread to those in need. Mary is survived by her five children, Gwen (Javier) Gonzalez, Edward (Sandra) Villa, Frank (Cindy) Villa, Gene Villa and Laura (Bob) Mulher, all of Tulare; 17 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and two sisters, Josie Aguallo of Sonoma and Pauline Melendez of Sacramento. Visitation will be 12-8 pm with a wake service at 6 pm, Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Peers Lorentzen Funeral Chapel. Mass will be at 11:30 am, Thursday, July 24, 2014 at St. Rita's Catholic Church with burial following at Tulare District Cemetery.
