John C. Hernandez, Sr. May 6, 1935 - November 10, 2012 In honor of John C. Hernandez, Sr., who went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by his family November 10, 2012 at the age of 77. He was born in Malga, New Mexico May 6, 1935 to Calistro and Trinidad Rillorta. John migrated to Visalia during the heart of the depression working in cotton fields and picking fruit at a very young age. He found time to attend Carrie Barnett and Crowley elementary school here in Visalia, where he at the age of 17 he met and married his wonderful wife of 51 years, Marcelina Macias Hernandez, on March 12, 1952. John was a hard worker who dedicated his life to his family. By the age of 18 he had joined the construction labor union #294 and eventually became the Head Foreman. For the next 33 years John was involved in the development of major projects, building bridges and dams throughout California including Visalia's Golden West and the Visalia Court House. His dedication to his family is only surpassed by his kindness and generosity to help those in need. John was a humble and loving man who will always be remembered for his huge heart. He is preceded in death by his father Calistro and step mom Margarita Hernandez, his wife Marcelina Hernandez, his sisters: Emily Urueta, Rosemary Escamilla and Teresa Navarette, his brothers Mike and Tony Hernandez, his daughter Lu Hernandez, and grandson John C. Hernandez the III. John is survived by his companion of nine years Fidel Gonzales, his mother Trinidad Rillorta, his sisters Lydia Valencia, Cecilia (David) Gonzales, Lupe (Pete) Licon, his brother Johnny (Lupe) Mendoza, his daughter Angie (Frank) Briseno, Maggie (Felix) Serrano, his son John C. (Emma) Hernandez, Jr., 15 grandchildren: Marcy (Stacey) Orange, Frank (Cory) Briseno, Nick Briseno, John Kelly (Lupe) Briseno, Marcelina (Abdul) Hadwan, Robert Ordonez Jr., Juan Serrano, Marcella Serrano, Marisa Madrid, Stephanie Hernandez, Alex Hernandez, Sylvia ( Peter) Martinez, Juan Navarro, Lupe Ramos, and Fernando Torres along with 30 great grand kids and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Miller Memorial Chapel on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012 from 4pm until 6pm, followed by a Rosary at 6:00pm at the chapel. Services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Monday, November 19, 2012 at 10:30am with graveside service to follow. Arrangements by Miller Memorial Chapel, Visalia.
