Dorothy Mae Ward Dorothy Mae Ward went to be with Jesus on December 6th, 2012 with family at her bedside. Dorothy was born on December 1st, 1927 to Bernhardt and Pearl Brodersen, in Florence, Missouri. Born the fifth of nine children, Dorothy spent her childhood working on the family farm. In 1949 Dorothy came to California as a summer missionary and to find a "California Boy" where she was introduced to James Ward. Upon having met her, James told a friend that "he would marry that girl some day." Seven weeks later they were married and they lived to share 64 years of love and kisses. Dorothy is survived by the love of her life, James and four siblings: Viola Phillips, Charles Brodersen, John Brodersen, and Elmer Brodersen. Her children include Darrell Ward and his wife Betty; Gerry Ward and his wife Vickie; Evelyn Smethers and her husband Dennis; and Charlotte Dunn and her husband Alan. In addition, she was blessed to have 9 grandchildren Brett Ward, Jeremy Ward, Amy Fritts, Melissa Garrett, Stacey Lewis, John Ward, Derek Smethers, Shannon Cauthen and Kyle Dunn; and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Ben and Pearl Brodersen; her siblings Velma Bishop, Roy Brodersen, Marianna Paxton and Leo Brodersen. Services will be held December 17th at Woodland Drive Baptist Church, 1436 S. Woodland. There will be a time of remembrance and reflection at 9:30am and a celebration of life will begin at 10:00am.
