Mary Jo Baker Secretary Mary Jo Baker, 84, of Visalia, passed away on January 11th, 2013, after a long and loving life. Mary Jo was born August 24th, 1928, in Cogar, Oklahoma to Robert and Gladys Gray. She attended grade school in Cogar until 1937. When she was 9 years old, and the country was in the midsts of The Great Depression, the family moved to California. Mary Jo attended grade school and high school in Reedley, and took business courses at Reedley College. In 1950, Mary Jo met Tom Baker while attending a country-western dance, the two fell in love and wed a short time later. Soon after they were married they had their son, who would be the first of four children to become the love of Mary Jo's life. They later moved to Tulare, and in 1960 the family moved to Visalia where Tom and Mary Jo bought their home together. Throughout her life Mary Jo worked several jobs at various packing houses, at Hammer Machinery, as a receptionist at Optometrist Dr. Nephian's office, and later at Bateman Hearing Aide, where she spent 20 years. Mary Jo's proudest job, and the one she found the most joy in, was being a mother and a grandmother. In addition to her favorite activity of spending time with her family, Mary Jo took many motorcycle trips with Tom, both locally and across many states with the Tulare County Family Travelers. Her sense of humor and sweet nature brought many laughs and smiles to those who were blessed to spend time with her.
