Donald Gene "Bop" McKinney Obituary
Donald Gene McKinney "Bop" Donald Gene McKinney, 78, left this life to be with the Lord on January 24th 2013. He was born June 18th, 1934, in Hamilton, Ohio, to the late John and Myrtle McKinney. Don married the love of his life, Ethel Mae Oden, on June 29th, 1957 in El Paso, Texas. Don and Ethel lived in North Carolina while he served in the Army. Don and Ethel eventually settled in Tulare, California where Don worked for the Dairy Herd Improvement Association. They had three children: Michael Ray, Mark Allen and Kimberly Lynn. Don was very active in the Boy Scouts when his kids were growing up. They enjoyed many adventures together, one of which being the difficult hike over Mount Whitney. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing different courses across the state. In the later years of life, he enjoyed spending time with his three grandchildren and three great granddaughters. He taught each and every one of them how to swim. He picked his great granddaughters up from school everyday and took them to get a treat. As well as having a deep love for spoiling his family, Donald also showed great happiness in the successes and achievements of every member. Don is survived by his loving wife, Ethel McKinney; his son, Mark McKinney; his daughter, Kim McKinney; his granddaughter, Heather Martins and her husband Tony; his grandsons: David McKinney and Brycen Knox; three great-granddaughters: Makenzie Martins, Montana Martins and Mylee Martins; daughter-in-law, Karen McKinney. He is also survived by two brothers John McKinney and Walter McKinney; two sisters: Elsie Caffy and Pauline McKinney and numerous nieces and nephews. Don is preceded in death by his parents, John and Myrtle, brother Herbert, sisters Alice and Dallas and son Michael. Viewing will be held from 12-8 p.m., Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at Peers Lorentzen Funeral Chapel, Tulare. A service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, January 31, 2013 also at Peers Lorentzen Funeral Chapel, Tulare, with burial following and North Tulare Cemetery.
