He honorably served 28 years in the U. S. Navy. He served in WWII, Korea and through three tours in Vietnam. He retired from the Navy in 1969 and began working for the Department of Interior in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. While working in the park he volunteered on the Wolverton Ski Patrol and the Three Rivers Ambulance. He was a member of Mountain Ramblers, a local hiking group. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge and Toast Masters in Brunswick, Georgia. While in the Navy and stationed in Rota, Spain he was instrumental in organizing fund raisers for a local orphanage. Bob was adventurous, and fortunate enough while serving in the Navy to see much of the world. He had a love for the outdoors and never knew a stranger. It wasn't unusual to find him on a mountain top hiking or cross country skiing in Sequoia. Bob was loved by his family and will be greatly missed. Our family wishes to express their gratitude to the Staff of Harbor Chase Assisted Living and Haven Hospice of Gainesville, Florida for their loving care. A private memorial service will be held March 9th at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation. Arrangements are under the care of Moring Funeral Home, Melrose, Fl.
