Steven Lee Smith A memorial service was held on April 12, in Oakhurst, California, at Palm Memorial Sierra Chapel, for Steven Lee Smith. He passed into the presence of our Lord, April 7, 2013, at the Veterans' Hospital in Fresno, California. Steven was born in Clovis, California, on September 16, 1954 to Milton and Billie Smith. Steven's childhood was spent living in rural Visalia. He attended Mineral King Union School, from kindergarten through eighth grade. During his four years at Redwood High School, he was active in FFA, and competed in Cross Country and Track. Shortly after graduation in June 1973, he married Roxanne Russell and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Among his duty stations were Chicago, San Diego, and Hawaii. After his discharge from the Navy he worked for Blocklite, in Selma. After working in construction framing homes, he started a long career at Kerr-McGee, in Trona, California. For the past 15 years, Steve and his second wife Rita, lived in Ahwahnee, California. Rita pre-deceased Steven, Oct. 2, 2012. Steven is survived by his parents Milton and Billie Smith, brothers Milton, and Dennis, daughter Shaina Zelazo (D.J.), son Jared Smith (Lisa), grandchildren: Russell, Trinity, Caleb, Destiney, Dylan, and A.J., and 8 step grandchildren. The family would like to express their gratitude to all of Steven's friends for the prayers and expressions of support during his battle with cancer. We will miss him for a while, until we meet again, in the presence of Jesus.
