Linda Edwards Obituary
Linda Jean (Breshears) Edwards After dealing with a nearly year-long cancer illness, Linda Edwards passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 9, 2013, with her husband and son at her bedside. Linda was born on January 21, 1945 in Bauxite, Arkansas to Sam and Hester Breshears. At the age of four months, her family moved to California, living for a short time in Farmersville, then settling in Exeter, where she attended elementary school. At 10 years of age, her family moved to Visalia, where Linda attended Houston Avenue Elementary, Green Acres Jr. High and Redwood High School. At Green Acres she met her future husband, Randy Edwards, in 1956. At Redwood High, Linda played flute in the marching band, and was active in school affairs, being selected as a majorette in her sophomore year, elected as a song leader in her junior year, and was then elected as one of the three cheerleaders in her senior year. After graduating from Redwood, Linda went to work for the phone company in Visalia to help meet family expenses, after her father had a stroke during her senior year. Linda and Randy were engaged in December, 1965, and married the next summer on July 2, 1966. They moved to Berkeley for three months, for Randy to finish college, while Linda worked for the phone company there. After college, Randy was drafted into the US Army, and Linda moved back to Visalia for the remainder of his military duty, except for a 5-month stay in Monterey together, while he was stationed at Fort Ord. Upon military duty being completed in 1969, Linda and Randy moved to El Cajon. In August, 1970, their only child, Brandon, was born. The following year they returned to live in Visalia for the next 8 years, then in 1979 built a home in the country north of Exeter, where they lived ever since. Linda loved being a wife, mother and the grandmother of three. She especially enjoyed cooking meals for family gatherings, baking pumpkin and lemon-cake pies, snicker doodles and chocolate chip cookies, and she enjoyed being with her family on vacations to Catalina Island, Lake Tahoe, Disneyland, and renting a houseboat for daylong swimming-fishing excursions at Lake Kaweah with her husband and grandkids. She also taught her son and each grandchild to swim, and loved watching them ride their bikes, scooters, roller blades, ATC, dirt bike and go-kart on the family grounds. Linda's warm, friendly smile, and her caring and loving ways, will be missed immensely by her husband, her family, her West Visalia Church of Christ family, and the family members and many friends who knew her and loved her dearly. Linda is predeceased by her parents, and is survived by her husband Randy, one son, Brandon (wife Michele), with grandchildren Owen, Sam and Grace, all of Nashville, TN, sister Aline Reimer of Parumph, NV, brothers Vance Breshears (wife Carol) of El Cajon, CA, Sammie Breshears of Visalia, sister Lorene Owensby of Moses Lake, WA, and many cousins, nephews and nieces. A graveside funeral service will be conducted by the Evans-Miller-Guinn Funeral Chapel on Friday, November 15, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the Exeter Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at Services entrusted to Evans Miller Guinn Chapel.
