Hicks, Henry Allen Age 74; of Richmond; died Friday morning, June 24, 2016 at home after a long illness. He was born December 12, 1941 in Berville the son of the late Henry and Helen (Wood) Hicks. His marriage to Sandy Robbins was May 22, 1965 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Armada. Henry was a 1959 Armada High School graduate. He had attended St. Clair County Community College and earned a business degree in accounting from Walsh College. He owned and operated a convenience store before opening Shernni’s Candies in Richmond in 1986 where he was known as the “candy man”. In 1989 he moved the business to Romeo and retired in 2008. It is still operated by new ownership today. Henry enjoyed golfing and spending time with his grandchildren and had attended all of their events. Surviving in addition to his wife Sandy are a daughter and son-in-law, Alyson and Michael Schade of Richmond; named “Whoppy” by his grandchildren, Kendal and Jordan Valentine both of Richmond, step-grandchildren, Michael, Lydia and David Schade all of Richmond; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Russell and Wanda of Riley Center and Howard and Doris of Romeo; three sisters, Mrs. Frans Prieskorn of Chesterfield, Ella Cone of Riley Center and Shirley Verschure of Ray Twp.; brother-in-law, Joe Tomeo of Memphis; and several nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Tomeo. The family honored the memory of Henry and shared memories Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Richmond. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Richmond, with 10 a.m. visiting. Rev. Mark Haller will officiate. Merecki, Carl Michael Sr. Age 94; of North Street, formerly of Richmond, MI; passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 22, 2016 with the love of his family. Mr. Merecki had one brother (Edmond) and two sisters (Lillian and Gertrude). He was born on April 30, 1922 in Detroit to the late Michael and Josephine (Matyanowski). Carl graduated from Denby High School in Detroit in 1941. He was a Veteran of W.W.II in the European Theater (Italy) as a Tech Sergeant/Radio Operator in a B-24 Liberator (S/H Mouse Esquire). He was awarded the Purple Heart in the service of his country. He married the late Aurora Marie Lopez in Detroit on September 2, 1950. Carl was retired from Pitney Bowes, owned and operated Kris Motors and was an associate broker with Country Real Estate in Richmond which is owned and operated by his son, Carl Jr. He was a member of the Macomb County Board of Realtors. He loved to fish with his family and friends, never shied away from a good game of pool and was an avid golfer. He is survived by his children; Susan (Lorne) Tait of Port Huron, Laurie (Thomas) Murray of Rochester, Julie (William) Hagen of West Bloomfield, Carl (Deborah) Merecki of North Street, R. Peter Merecki of Waterford and Kristin (John) Evangelista of Ann Arbor, 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Memorial service will be 6 p.m. with a visitation from 3 p.m. until the time of service, Thursday, June 30, 2016, at Rewalt-Peshek Funeral Home, 68655 Stoecker Lane, Richmond 48062. Pastor Suzy Hutchison will be officiating. Donations may be made to the Red Cross of America.

Eckert, Eileen Ann (Rivard) Of New Baltimore; passed away peacefully, surrounded by her five children on June 23, 2016 at Select Specialty Hospital in Mount Clemens. She was born on July 1, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan to Layton and Celestine Rivard and attended St. Mary’s of Redford High School. She received her undergraduate nursing degree from Mercy College and later received her Master’s Degree in Nursing Education from University of Detroit. She worked for several years for St. Joseph Hospital in Mount Clemens and later retired from the Macomb County Health Department. She married Kurt Eckert on November 22, 1958. He predeceased her in 1985. Eileen loved camping, travelling and enjoying time with friends and family. Her gift of quick wit and humor was legendary and remained with her for her entire life. She is survived by her five children, Edward (Erin) of Fort Worth, Texas, Thomas of Westland, MI, Robert of Easthampton, MA, Michael (Deborah) of Hartland, MI, Kathleen Eckenrode (David) of Fair Haven, MI; granddaughter, Abigail of Hartland, MI; brothers, Lacel (Jean) Rivard of Romeoville, IL and Thomas Rivard of Waterford, MI; and many loving nieces and nephews.
