MARK THOMPSON Obituary

MARK EUGENE THOMPSON 10/5/1953 - 6/7/2013 Mark Eugene Thompson, age 59 of Hesperia, California, passed away June 7, 2013. Mark is survived by Teresa, his devoted wife of 32 years; his son Alex of Hesperia, CA; and son Trent and daughter-in-law, Kelly Wiersma of Upland, CA. Mark was the son of the late Mr. Floyd R. Thompson and is survived by his mother, Mrs. Lois Thompson, of Sun City, CA; sisters, Cheryl Korte and Suzanne Thompson, and brother Tom Thompson. He also leaves many adoring nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews, as well as truly countless life-long friends. Mark was born October 5, 1953 in Pomona and grew up in Walnut, CA. He moved to Hesperia in 1986 where he and Teresa built their family home and raised their sons. Water skiing, fishing, hunting, and off-road jeeping with his family as well as frequent camping trips were among his favorite activities. Forty-two years of celebrating Thanksgiving with "The Duners" in Mammoth Wash and Glamis forged the kind of friendships that comes from burying and unburying everything from turkeys to trucks. In 2012, Mark retired from DEB Construction, Inc., Anaheim, CA, where he was a superintendent for many years. Mark was most proud of being "the super" for the DEB construction project in Adelanto, CA. A ground up Bank of America building that became the country's first Certified LEED Platinum bank branch. The Bank of America at Jess Ranch in Apple Valley was also his project –a Certified LEED Gold building. He and his crew were among the first in banking construction industry to complete ecologically progressive "green" buildings. His last project he was especially proud to build: The Farmers and Merchants Bank in San Clemente, CA in 2011. Mark had to remove and demo the interior of the existing bank and build a new branch all while complying with the city of San Clemente's strict codes and guidelines - timing the shutting down of a beach city's block of water supply was no easy task. Over the years Mark's projects were big and small, from building an overpass for the Metrolink to building his family home, which he did solo over a period of two years with the help of family and friends. Even The Duners came up to help. Mark was a passionate and skilled huntsman. Dove, turkey, and deer hunting were annual outings with his hunting buddies. Many BBQs and chili cook-offs found Mark quietly smiling as he saw to it that family and friends unsuspectingly tasted wild game for the first time. Mark is remembered as a loving and devoted husband and father, loyal son and brother, cheerful uncle and steadfast friend. We will miss his quiet yet hilarious sense of humor, his unassuming, kind manner, and how he was a friend to all. In a time of need Mark was most frequently the first on the scene to help and the last one to leave. We can all look to heaven with confidence knowing that Mark is surely standing by with a tow rope to help us up. Mark's life will be celebrated on his 60th birthday in the place he loved the best – the great outdoors. "We'll see what's going on."

Dear Teresa & Family.

We were really sad to hear of Mark's passing. We are sending our condolence, heartfelt prayers and love to you and your whole family.

We know Kathleen valued you and Mark's friendship. They're probably up there remembering and toasting the good ole times with some O'Doules, eggnog cake and chili.

We love you, Teresa! Remember, we are just a phone call away.

Dear Teresa and Family
When I heard this sad news I couldn't help but think of the time Mark spent in San Clemente building that beautiful bank. What a terrific Superintendent! I hope the times you were able to join him to enjoy the sun and surf provided you with wonderful memories. He will be forever missed, and never forgotten.

Mark, my favorite S-I-L, You left us too soon but I guess you had business Upstairs and the Lord waiting for you. I'm going to miss so many of your wonderful traits: your mischievous grin, your teasing and jokes, your warm welcomes, your helpfulness, your BBQs, and especially your graceful acceptance of what life dealt you. May you now rest in peace with God at your side.

Dearest Teresa, my message written a few days ago seems to have disappeared into thin air. Maybe Mark took it with him? Nevertheless, dad and I know Mark will watch over you, Alex, and Trent and help you thru this painful time. Trust, and know you are loved by all.

I was shocked when i heard of Mark's passing. I worked with his dad Floyd, at P&K Materials. After Floyd passed i lost touch with the rest of the family. I liked Mark and It's a shame I live so close, but didn't stay in contact. I think of Floyd often, and hope Mark is with his Dad in a better place. R.I.P. Mark.

Mark was one of the funniest men I knew. He was the perfect mate for my sister, Teresa. As a dad, he raised Alex and Trent with manly wisdom and all the outdoors they could handle. When he was around life was fun, food was delicious and jokes flowed like beer.

Theresa, we are so sorry to learn of Mark's death. He spent almost six months with us when he oversaw the addition to our home in Diamond Bar. Nancy had just returned home after surgery to repair a seriously broken ankle and was in a non weight bearing cast. I came home at lunch to see her and make sure she was all right. After a few days I knew she was in good hands because Mark was there overseeing the job but also available to help her if there was an emergency. We relied on his good judgement and advice for construction changes. Nancy and have often told our friends about this terrific guy who ran the remodeling of our house and how talented he was. We saw him as friend who was in our life for six months yet made a lasting impression. The Thompson family is in our thoughts and prayers.

Please, my sons, daughter-in-law and I would love to hear your thoughts and memories of the character and
downright decent human being who was in my life for over 37 years - my husband, Mark. Words are more powerful than you will ever know. I want to thank all family and friends for their loads of love and superior support, and I am especially thankful to my two sons, Alex and Trent, who have come to my rescue this past week to be my pillars. I am so proud of these two men. I love you, sons. Together, we will miss him. Together, we will celebrate him. We can watch his spirit blooming everywhere, especially in the mint in the backyard...
Love you forever husband,
