NELSON DRAPER SR. 6/23/1917 - 9/22/2013 Nelson Draper Sr., 96, longtime resident of Barstow passed away of natural causes on Sunday Sept. 22, 2013. He was born June 23, 1917 in Canyon Del Muerto (Chinle) Az. to parents Etsitty and Margaret Draper. Mr. Draper worked at and retired from Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow. He was one of about 29 remaining Marine Navajo Code Talkers famous for their significant contribution to the victory over the Japanese in the Pacific during World War II. Mr. Draper is survived by his wife Lena C. Draper, son Nelson Draper Jr., and six daughters: Jennifer Lord, Peggy Santos, Christina Burke, Orlinda Sanchez, Cheryln Varela and Karen Santos. Other family includes 28 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren. Services will be held at Hi Desert Word Center on Sept. 27th at 10am.

My father was a Marine in WWII and survived the war because of the Code Talkers. Had it not been for those men he most likely would not have come home. To his family and friends please accept my deepest condolences for the loss of this great man. RIP my Hero.
