Jeanne, we remember with fondness our experiences with Tom as a member of Barstow Community Players. He had a part in one of the plays, someone asked him how he learned his lines so quickly. His response, in that laconic voice of his was: " Oh, I learned them driving to work (Barstow Schools)". "Really, how would one do that?" "Oh, there wasn't much traffic, so I could read them while I drove, and it was easy...". We love you, and pray that you will find peace and hope in this difficult time.

I've been a teacher at Helendale Elementary for the past 18 years and had the extreme pleasure of meeting Tom and witnessing his immense kind and caring attitude and his generous spirit. He would come by our school from time to time and donate his treasured teaching resources to anyone who could use them. As kindred teaching spirits, it was a great feeling to share a part of his life that was so dear to him. Thank you, Tom. You will be missed!

Mr. Merchant was my 6th grade teacher at Skyline North in 1984. I have great memories of his class and him teaching us to be creative and think outside the box. Thank you for sharing your gift of teaching.
