Charette, Joseph "Joe"  
Joseph "Joe" Charette December 12, 1920 - April 16, 2015 Joseph "Joe" Charette, a Purple Heart recipient and veteran of World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War, went to be with our Lord in Heaven on April 16th, 2015. He was born on December 12th, 1920 in Santa Monica, California. Joe had been a resident of the High Desert since 1976 via San Diego where he served in the United States Navy. He joined the Navy one day after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and served as a Commisaryman aboard the USS Pensacola, USS Minneapolis, and USS Tilefish. Joe survived two separate attacks on his ships during the Battle of Tassafaronga. He eventually went on to become a Senior Chief Petty Officer and the Navy Recruiter of the Nation in 1976 and 1977. He was an adamant supporter of his community and served as a volunteer firefighter, CSD council member, and honorary Mayor of Newberry Springs. Joe had two sons, Larry and Joseph, with his first wife, Leona. After Leona passed, Joe remarried to Grace Lauretta in 1992. Joseph is survived by his 4 sons, 4 daughters, 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Joe was a great mentor and role model for his family and friends. A memorial for family will be held in May.

Gillmore, Joyce Patricia  
Joyce Patricia Gillmore February 9, 1929 - April 15, 2015 Our Heavenly Father received another angel April 15, 2015, Joyce Patricia Gillmore (Funch) of Yermo, Ca. She was born February 9, 1929. Beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was called home peacefully while surrounded by family and loved ones. Born in Flint, Mich., she lived a long and joyous life. Joyce was a strong woman and could always make you smile with her sense of humor and feistiness. Joyce believed in the Lord and taking care of those around here. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Harry Gillmore Jr.; five children, Patty and Gene Crawford, Harry and Charlene Gillmore, Loraine and Richard Satori, Gary and JoAnne Gillmore, Randy and Carolyn Gillmore; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

PALACIOS, JOE V. - Barstow  
Joe V. Palacios September 3, 1929 - April 24, 2015 Joe died on April 24, 2015 after a short illness. He was born in Temple, Texas. Joe later moved to the state of Wyoming. He worked in underground mining and later in construction. Joe moved to Barstow in 1965 and began employment with BUSD, retiring after 28 years of service. Joe is preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Palacios, two step-sons and two step-daughters. He is survived by daughter, Ruby Ann Palacios; three step-daughters; two step-sons, one sister; and a niece. He also leaves behind several grandchildren. Viewing will be held at Mead Mortuary, 36940 Irwin Road, on May 1 from 9 to 11 a.m. Private graveside service to follow.
