Elfriede Ryken "Elly" Queen

ELFRIEDE "ELLY" RYKEN QUEEN 4/29/1950 - 2/22/2014 Elly was called home to be with God on February 22, 2014, after a very long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Elly faced cancer as she faced most everything in her life, with humor, dignity, pride and grace. She enjoyed many things in life but the thing she enjoyed most was being with family and friends. Elly was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, friend and aunt. Those who knew Elly couldn't help but love her. She was quick witted and would smile easily. She was blessed to have been married to the love of her life, Larry, for twenty-seven years. Elly was born in OuderKerk aan den IJssel, Netherlands on April 29, 1950, to Arie and Elfriede Ryken. The family immigrated to the United States in 1964. Elly is preceded in death by her mother, father, brother Willem Ryken and sister-in-law Lisa Ryken. Elly is survived by her loving husband Larry, her brother Paul, her children Elka Desjardins (Pete), Shannon Hogg (David Mountain), Carolyn Moser (Rob), and Darrel. She also had three step-children who she loved as her own, Carol Hosman (Tim), Wayne Wyatt, and Joe Wyatt. Elly's grand-children and great-grandchildren were the light of her day. Elly also had numerous nieces and nephews as well as a large family of aunts, uncles and cousins in Holland and Germany. Elly always said that she did not want anyone to be sad when she was no longer with us. Therefore, a celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 3:00 in the afternoon, at Crossover Church of Rosedale, 18210 Rosedale Highway, Bakersfield, California. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc.
