Ethel F. Smith

ETHEL F. SMITH 7/31/1918 - 10/30/2013 Longtime Apple Valley resident Ethel Smith passed away on October 30, 2013, at the age of 95. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Hugh, in 2011. She leaves a son, Christopher, of Apple Valley, daughter Bettina Townsend (Homer) of Borrego Springs, two grandsons and two great-grandsons. The family also wishes to recognize the devotion of Ethel's longtime care-giver, Annie Leggins-Hamilton, and the care and dedication of the staff of Sterling Commons. The Smiths moved to Apple Valley in 1953, and Ethel was a kindergarten teacher in local schools, later working as a clerk at VVHS and AVHS. She was also the first manager of the Victor Valley College bookstore. After retirement, Ethel enjoyed many years of golfing and bridge at the Apple Valley Country Club. She was an avid reader and walker, continuing to walk several miles daily until well into her 90's. No services are planned.
