EUGENE HENRY ALEXANDER 10/4/1918 - 4/13/2014 Lt. Col. Eugene Henry "Alex" Alexander passed away peacefully on Sunday April 13, 2014 in Apple Valley, CA. He was born October 4, 1918 in Dayton, Ohio and resided in Hesperia, CA since 1978. His parents were Guy Henry and Mabel Mae Alexander of Dayton, Ohio. Alex is survived by his Sister Annabelle Smith, four children Timothy Joe, Mary Aileen, Guy Henry, and Leslie Ann. He is also survived by his grand- children Renee, Vanessa, Michael, Rocky, Amy, and Whitney; and he is additionally survived by his great grandchildren Carson Mackenzie, Malia Mae, Ashlin Alexander, Savanna Rae, Cole Henry, Violet Mae, Brandon and Harrold. Alex volunteered for the draft in 1940 after dropping out of high school, and joined the U.S. Army. In 1942, he joined the 91st Infantry in a task force on Ascension Island, where he first became a platoon leader and later the S-2 Intelligence Officer for the task force. His special assignments included locations such as the Belgian Congo, Africa and Natal, Brazil. His assignments went on to South Atlantic Theater, Infantry Advance Combat School, and Southwest Pacific Theater. After his 1946 separation from the Infantry, he was promoted to Lt. Col. in the US Army Reserve and as a Key Civilian employee for the U.S Air Force in the Pentagon. His last civilian assignment was as special assistant to the Commander Space and Missile Systems Organization for all matters pertaining to the competitive source selection process for Aerospace contractors with offices at Norton Air Force Base. He retired from civil service in 1973, at which time Alex went on to volunteer in Hesperia for various community organizations, and traveled throughout North America with his family.
