LA VERNE CLOFFER LA POINT SR. La Verne Cloffer La Point, Sr., a Barstow resident of 53 years, age 75, entered into eternal life with our Lord Jesus on December 21, 2012, he was surrounded by his wife and family. He was born in South Gate, California on April 6, 1937. La Verne a Santa Fe retiree after 35 years of dedicated service. Before his career with the railroad, La Verne served in the U.S. Army in Germany as a Sergeant for 4 years and followed that by enlisting in the National Guard for an additional 2 yrs. Some of his past times were fishing, camping and snake hunting, but his passion stood in rock hunting. La Verne loved his rocks in fact, just before he had gotten too ill to continue, he discovered a rock that had not been previously documented of any find; he cheerfully named it after himself, Vernite. La Verne is preceded by his father Shirley La Point; Mother, Evelyn La Point; by brothers Edward Speisser, Joe and Fred La Point and by sisters Virginia Compton and Beverly Guerrero. He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years; Caroline (Carol) Julia; his daughter Julia and her husband Gilbert Saiz; his second daughter Donna and her husband Lucio Espinoza; his son La Verne C La Point, Jr.; and second son Dennis La Point; 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; all of Barstow. He is also survived by many many nieces and nephews and a lot of great friends. Rosary will be held at Mead Mortuary on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at 6 p.m., on Irwin Rd., Barstow. Life Celebration Mass will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 505 E. Mt View, Barstow on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 10 a.m.; followed by graveside services at Mt View Memorial Park, 37067 Irwin Rd. Please join the family for a reception at Noonan Hall following the graveside services.
