RACHEL ERIN LEWIS Rachel Erin Lewis, age 41 was called home to heaven to be with Christ, her Savior on Tuesday, November 6th. She died at St. Mary's Hospital. She was lovingly called "Rosebud" by her family. Rachel moved to Apple Valley in 1979 with her parents and siblings; attended Yucca Loma School, AV Jr. High School and AV High School. She continued her education at UC-Santa Barbara, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts. In 1998 she moved to Chicago, Il. where she pursued her love of culinary art and painting. She ran a small art gallery in Chicago and also worked as the Chef at St. John Cantius Rectory in Chicago. Due to health problems, she moved back to Apple Valley in February of this year and resided with her parents. Rachel is survived by her parents, Rev. Lawrence and Celeste Lewis; five brothers- Christian, Matthew, Joel, Aaron and Martin Lewis; and a sister Celeste Herron. She has 17 nieces and nephews and two great nieces. She is also survived by two Aunts and two Uncles and many cousins. Her life was often spent in service to others, caring for them in their times of need. She was a very creative artist and loved teaching art to children; especially her nieces and nephews. An extensive collection of her work survives her. During her growing up years she was active in Ascension Lutheran Youth Group and also with the local 4-H group. She was an avid horsewoman and competed in 4-H competitions at Horseman's Center. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 15th, at 11 a.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church 22130 Ottawa Road, Apple Valley. Viewing will take place at the church at 10 a.m. The burial service will be held at Sunset Hills in Apple Valley, following the funeral service at Ascension Lutheran Church. Rev. James Harris, Pastor of Ascension Lutheran will officiate at the service and burial.
