YVONNE ARBUTUS RAMSEY

YVONNE ARBUTUS RAMSEY December 21, 1918 - October 20, 2012 Yvonne Arbutus Ramsey was born in Hays, Kansas to Reuben Aaron and Ethel Ora (Howie) Wilson on December 21, 1918. A resident of Barstow, CA for over 50 years, she moved to San Diego to be closer to her son and his family in 2007. On the afternoon of October 20, 2012, she died peacefully in her sleep. Known as Arbutus to her friends and family, she was raised in Kansas and married William Thomas "W.T." Ramsey in Marion, KS on August 31, 1940. They had three sons, Dennis, Richard and Bill. W.T. was in the U.S. Army, which provided Arbutus and family with many adventures. They lived in several locations, including Germany, before finally settling in Barstow in 1954. Arbutus worked as a civilian clerk at the Marine Corp Logistics Base. After retirement, she volunteered as a "Pink Lady" at Barstow Hospital, traveled to Europe and to the Far East. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the First United Methodist Church. Married for over 40 years to W.T, until his death in 1981, Arbutus was also fortunate to share over 20 years of companionship with Malcolm J. Richards Sr. Both of these men shared her love for hosting family events and socializing with friends at the Elks Lodge. In addition to her family, Arbutus loved flowers, listening to her police scanner, watching her home weather station, reading books by the bag-full from the library and keeping the freezer stocked of Bon Bons for her grand- children. Yvonne Arbutus Ramsey is survived by her sons Dennis Ramsey of Silverdale, WA, Richard Ramsey of Santee, CA, and William (Bill) Ramsey Jr. of Elbert, CO, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents Reuben and Ethel Ora Wilson, brother Rex Aaron Wilson, husband William T. Ramsey Sr., long-time companion Malcolm J. Richards Sr. and granddaughter Kathleen Erin Neuenswander. The Family would like to thank Julie's Elderly Care and Tania Carolina Murillo for the loving care and friendship they provided Arbutus over the last five years. Inurnment will be at Riverside National Cemetery, with a private graveside service. Donations in honor of Arbutus may be made to the in her honor.
