EDWARD A. HAGER 7/18/1934 - 3/6/2014 Edward A. Hager (Ed/ Mr. Ed) went home to be with his Lord, on the evening of March 6, 2014, at Kaiser Ontario Hospital, surrounded by those who loved him. My beloved Ed was born on July 18, 1934, in Harvey, North Dakota to Frank and Catherine Hager and was the youngest of nine. With 2 brothers and 6 sisters, all of whom except Helen, are now renewing memories and laughing over old times. Ed lost his dad at the very early age of six, which created in him the determined desire to be the very best father he could possibly be, some day. He attended Catholic Elementary School and served as an altar boy every day. Ed graduated from Harvey High School in 1953 and to this day has many treasured friendships with former classmates. When he made a friend, it was for life! He loved each one of them and, until recently, got together for yearly reunions. After graduation, Ed entered the U.S. Army on July 29, 1954 and served, primarily in Okinawa, until July 11, 1956. He then traveled to Ontario, Ca. to visit his brother Andy, and wife, Lorraine Hager. One evening, he decided to attend the Los Angeles County Fair where, thank God and Jodie Hegney, we met. After two years of dating, Ed married Brenda Keller on September 5, 1958 and began 55 ½ years of the happiest lifetime possible. We were blessed with God's greatest gift, our children Debbie Lorene King, Steven Morris Hager, and Kurt Daniel Hager. Ed spent all his life, doing the very best for his kids; attending church as a family, coaching baseball, being scout troop leader, playing ball, camping, talking and anything and everything possible to show them how very much he loved each one. They were his delight! Later, he was so proud to have three more children, Leslie McFann married Steven, Jeanne Haynes married Kurt and Art King married Debbie. They were always considered his children, never in-laws! In later years, Ed's joy magnified! Each time we learned we were to be grandparents, he was ecstatic. With the birth of each of the following grandchildren, his joy and gratefulness to God was multiplied; James Edward Hager (married Harley), Garrett Michael Hager, Jessica Lee Hager, Lindsay Jean Hager, Candice Annette King, and Arthur Randall King. With addition of four and a half great grandchildren; Shane, Elijah, Mikayla, Patrick Lee, and one on the way, his joy grew even greater. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Helen Schmidt of Harvey, North Dakota, his brother- in-law, Joe Sanchez of Ontario, Ca. and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. God has blessed us through the years with many treasured friendships; "The Group" (beloved friends for over 55 years), Marriage Encounter (cherished friends for over 36 years), Victorville United Methodist Church, our beautiful church family at Hesperia United Methodist Church, and our many neighborhood friends. Ed loved his God, his family, his country, his friends, and fun. He will be watching over us all. Services for Ed will be on Friday, March 14th at Sunset Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary, 24000 Waalew Road, Apple Valley, California. A visitation will be from 10-11 AM with services to begin at 11 AM. Graveside services with military honors will follow. Updated service information and a on line guest book are available at sunsethills.cc
