ELSIE "RUTH" HAMLIN BULLOCK 11/9/1920 - 10/30/2013 Elsie "Ruth" Hamlin Bullock was born November 9, 1920, on a farm in Winfield, Kansas, to Ernest and Carolyn Hamlin. She passed away on Oct. 30, 2013 at the age of 92. Ruth traveled the world and visited all seven continents. Ruth is survived by her two children, Larry McQuiston, Cottage Grove, Oregon, and Pamela Gerbitz, Victorville, CA, grandchildren Geordan and Gaelan McQuiston, and Heather (Gerbitz) Cooper and Amber (Gerbitz) Knight, and great-granddaughters Britnee and Bridget Scott. Ruth's other avocations were knitting and bridge. The family has been well supplied with afghans for over fifty years, and she acted as chairperson for the Hesperia Bridge Club for many years. Having moved from Kansas to Costa Mesa, CA, in 1954, Ruth eventually found her way into real estate via finance and escrow, coming to Hesperia in the early 1960s to help with administrative needs for her niece, Keenie Pratt, and Keenie's husband, Lorne Pratt, then owner of the Hesperia Inn and Country Club, Airport, and the Hesperia Resorter newspaper. Prompted by friend and Hesperia developer Penn Phillips, Ruth began a career in real estate sales with Hesperia real estate pioneer Warren Watts, and finally as secretary/ treasurer of Bullock Construction, a company she and her then-husband, Dean Bullock, owned and operated. A survivor of colon cancer at 35, and several other serious surgeries during her life, Ruth continued to drive herself to bridge and family gatherings and tended her half-acre property (receiving a chain saw for Christmas in 2001) well into her 80s. A strong and vital woman all her life, Ruth will be sorely missed by her surviving family and many friends. Services to be held at Miles Funeral Home, Winfield, KS on Nov. 9.
