GILBERT VIEYRA On Monday, November 12, 2012, while surrounded by his family at home, Gilbert Vieyra, loving husband, dad, papa and brother, bravely lost his battle to cancer and went peacefully to our Lord. He is survived by his wife, Ann; his children Pam and Eddie, Tim and Laura, Tom and Katie, and Brian and Stephanie; his granddaughter and 12 grandsons; his great-grandson; his 3 sisters and 3 brothers; and his wife's family of Canada. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dolores and Manuel Vieyra, Sr. and brothers, Richard and Julian. He was born, February 26, 1938, in Bakersfield, CA where he was raised. He was drafted and proudly served in the US Army from 1961-1963. Gil was a meat packer for 33 years with the Provision Workers' Local 770. He came full circle when he retired from Ft. Irwin Army Post with ITT Logistics in 2000 at the age of 62. Gil and Ann began their life together on November 13, 1965. They raised their children in Hollydale, CA until 1991. They have been residents of the Victor Valley since that time. For those who knew Gil, he was an avid recycler and always encouraged everyone to save their cans and be green. He was a big fan of the 49er's, SF Giants and Trojan football. He was the biggest fan of his grandkids sports. The Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held on November 20, 2012 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Victorville at 11:00 am; following Mass at 2:00pm, Gilbert will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Apple Valley. Celebration of Life Gathering will immediately follow at the family home.
