IONE VIVIAN DIETRICH (PETERSON) 02/20/1932-04/22/2013 Ione Vivian Dietrich (Peterson), 81, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2013 at her home in Pinon Hills, Ca. She was born on February 20, 1932 in Little Falls, Minnesota to Albert Emil and Mabel Agetha Peterson. Ione grew up in Compton, California and graduated from Compton High School in 1949. After high school, she attended college at Compton College and was a proud and active member of her sorority, while working as a file clerk for Aetna Insurance. Ione is survived by her beloved husband, Paul Eugene Dietrich, whom she married on March 8, 1952, and has been honeymooning with ever since, her daughter Susan Lorraine Vanderhorst, son Paul Eugene Dietrich II, and daughter Mary Elizabeth Dietrich-Brace. She has 7 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. All of whom loved and adored her. She was a dedicated wife and mother who valued family more than anything. She raised her children while working as a teacher's aide for disabled children and supported her husband while he was Captain at the Los Angeles County Fire Department for almost 30 years. They lived an exciting life traveling and constantly seeking new adventures and activities as a family. Ione was a member of countless organizations supporting the fire department, Marine Corps and many other community programs and establishments. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and a very proud, active member of society. Ione was famous for her mischievous sense of humor, a deep appreciation for a good, cold beer, arguing with anyone for the heck of it, a constant craving for a slice of pizza and a good bowl of ice cream, a love/hate relationship with sandwich crusts and fast food burgers, and a strong disregard for fashion sense and over-opinionated youngsters. She never missed a chance to call up one of her many friends and critique last night's episode of Dancing with the Stars. She was always there to either laugh with you or at you, as long as she laughed. She mastered the art of slot machines and collecting knickknacks and was always proud to have her many hobbies on display. She was an avid water skier, though she could never stand up on skis. She loved river trips with her family and always had room for the kids' friends to come along. She always made sure everyone could take part in the fun. She was stubborn to the very end and put up a great fight as always. In her final days, she was surrounded by friends and family who loved her. She passed in the quiet, peaceful evening hour with her true love, Paul, by her side as always. Her strong spirit lives on in her descendants. Ione lived a beautifully abundant, wealthy life yet she, herself, was priceless. Rest in Peace, Ione. A private Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., at the Fireside Restaurant and Event Center located at the Green Tree Golf Club in Victorville, California.
