Ed Grace, 84, of Spring Valley Lake, passed away on July 17th peacefully in his sleep. Ed was born on December 20, 1932 to Jesse and Mary Grace in St. Joseph, Missouri. Ed was the first born followed by three sisters. In 1946 the family relocated to Hawthorne, California Ed graduated high school in 1950. In January of 1951, during the Korean conflict, he joined the US Navy. During this tour he served aboard the USS Kearsarge, completing his service in October of 1954. During this time, Ed married and had 5 children. In 1958 he joined the Los Angeles Police Dept. where he served until his retirement in 1978. In 1982 Ed met and married Carol. Together they moved to Spring Valley Lake. Never liking the word "retirement", he went to work for Kampers Korner selling RVs for the next 20 years. Ed was a member of Spring Valley Lake Country Club and played golf for many years. Ed was very passionate about veterans and the military and became involved with VFW. He was instrumental in forming the SVL Post #12039 where he held many positions. He also learned of the Ham Radio Club. He joined them and became active on Ham radio. Through these groups he made many life-long friends. Ed was preceded in death by parents Jesse and Mary Grace, sister Judy, and infant son Shawn. Ed is survived by his loving wife Carol; children Steve (Gail), Sharon (Mark), Susan, Shirley and stepdaughter Cindy; also 4 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and sisters Carol (and family) and June (Rudy). He will also be forever missed by his precious furry-friends Teddy and Sami. A memorial service will be held at Desert View Mortuary on August 14 at 10:00 am to be followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm at Riverside National Cemetery. Sweet dreams my love, 'til we meet again.
