Ramsey Fowler Obituary

Ramsey Bancroft Fowler, born November 10, 1957, passed away December 1, 2010. Ramsey was a loving and devoted father, boyfriend, son, brother, uncle, teacher and friend. His family moved to Apple Valley in 1964 and Ramsey attended local schools from grades two -11, when he moved to San Marino in order to swim CIF during his senior year. After graduating from San Marino High School in 1975, he attended the University of California at Irvine, where he joined the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Ecology. He returned to the High Desert in 1982 to make it his permanent home.
Ramsey leaves behind his beloved daughter, Jenna; his loving girlfriend, Patty; his parents, Anne and Clark; siblings: Robert, Kathleen and James; many nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
His almost 20-year teaching career encompassed Yucca Loma, Rio Vista and - most recently - Vanguard Preparatory School. Ramsey loved his students, but - because of the enormous respect he had for the benefits of a good education - he held them to the highest standards and strived to make the educational process fun. One of his most memorable years came at Rio Vista when his daughter, Jenna, was in his class.
Ramsey was a fun-loving, caring and unique person, passionate about those he loved, but with great compassion for the less fortunate. His on-going donations to the homeless and helpless were a hallmark of his life, but one he never spoke of with others.
Music-lover and aspiring pianist, Ramsey became the lead singer with The Bottom Dwellers, a local rock band, but continued to enjoy the many sports that drew him back to the desert. Running, biking, swimming and tennis were among his favorites, but he was an undefeatable master of backgammon as well. A conduit of energy with a smile on his face and ready wit from his lips, Ramsey was always the life of the party, an instigator of fun and mischief, whose playful spirit brought joy to all those around him. He was passionate and stubborn in his opinions, a strength that he carried over into his personal relationships.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 11th at the Roy Rogers-Dale Evans Chapel at Sunset Hills Memorial Park, 24000 Waalew Road in Apple Valley, CA 92307 followed by a Celebration of Ramsey's Life at Vanguard Preparatory School, 12951 Mesquite Rd., Apple Valley, CA 92308, (760) 961-1066.
In lieu of flowers, an educational trust fund has been established at the Apple Valley Branch of Desert Community Bank in the name of Jenna Bancroft Fowler. Donations may be made directly to the DCB Apple Valley Branch, 16003 Quantico Road, Apple Valley 92307.
The Fowler family wants to express its deepest appreciation to the administration and staff at Vanguard for their outpouring of love and support for Ramsey.
We love you Ramsey and will always hold you in our hearts.

I met Ramsey in college when he went to UC Irvine. I knew him about 3 years. At one point he had broken his back and I came to see him in Victorville at a football game. He was smart, kind, fun to be around and had dancing blue eyes. He was one of a kind. Heaven has a good man!

My favorite teacher, my 4th grade teacher. Made me laugh by opening my lunch one day in front of the class to only be upstaged by what it was -- a "butter sandwich" lol I'll never forget how dumbfounded he was, that I made myself a butter sandwich... he lost his composure and laughed so hard, he couldn't even finish poking fun at me, the whole class was just laughing.

I'm here because I'm looking into what living in Alaska is like, and all I can think of is Mr. Fowler always saying he was from Juneau, Alaska... he's the only Alaskan I'll ever know and I'll say a prayer for him

Dear Fowler family, I remember the first day attending Mr. Fowler's class eight years ago. I was so lucky to have the privilege to be in his class and enjoy his presence as my teacher each day. His memory lives on, and he will be missed dearly. But this isn't it. We will all meet him again one day. Mr. Fowler, thanks for everything. (:

I had Mr. Fowler as my fourth grade teacher in 1996. He was one of my favorite teachers and many of my memories from elementary school were made in his class. I had this stuffed, tiny chick that Mr. Fowler always kept at his desk for most of the year...it kind of became our "class pet" and he always made it fly. :) He was always full of jokes and easy going...He is definitely missed by many and his family is in our prayers.

Our prayers go out to the daughter and family of Mr. Fowler. When we heard the news of Mr. Fowler's sudden death, we were heartbroken. My son Michael had the privilege of being in Mr.Fowler's class this year. Michael has many wonderful memories of Mr. Fowler who was an "awesome" caring teacher. He made learning fun and will be greatly missed by my son. May he Rest in Peace.

Ramsey will always be a great friend despite the years that have passed since our High School days. He taught us how to laugh at ourselves and how to enjoy every moment. We had many nicknames for him, but the one that fits best is "friend". Ramsey, you are missed. God Bless. The Boys...
